As APC pays courtesy on Chinese Embassy…Amb. Foh speaks of how APC is sustained by the poor
Former Secretary-General of the governing All Peoples Congress, (APC) who was also recently appointed Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to China, Victor Bockarie Foh has encouraged the new Secretary-General of the party, Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh, “not to forget the down trodden as the APC is sustained by the poor.” He spoke on Thursday, 9th May 2013 at the APC Secretariat, whilst handing over to the newly elected Secretary-General of the party.
According to Ambassador Foh, who is also Special Political Adviser to the President, he was happy over the election of Osman Yansaneh as his successor given that Ambassador Yansaneh is someone that knows the party and one known by the party. Ambassador Foh called on his successor to ensure the party always remained united. “Let us work to sustain the survival and continuous growth of our party. We also should not treat 2018 lightly.” he admonished.
Speaking further, Ambassador Foh called on the Secretariat to give all the support needed by the new Secretary-General. “He deserves respect and he should be honored.” According to Ambassador Foh, his successor, Ambassador Osman Yansaneh has been a dedicated and reliable party member.
Ambassador Foh further stated that given the successes of the current government and with what President Koroma has done in few years, there is the likelihood for him to win the Mo Ibrahim award. He said, he was therefore not surprise, that certain section of the opposition are spreading false rumor as to plans by the President to go for a third term, something Ambassador Foh said has never been part of the President’s thinking. “Winning the Mo Ibrahim award should be our focus and we are sure, President Koroma will win it”, Ambassador Foh assured confidently. President Koroma, Ambassador Foh further assured, “will leave office as the most popular President “and that he will leave the stage at a time when the ovation will be high for him.
Also making a statement was Alhaji M S Kargbo, out gone Organizing Secretary of the APC. He spoke that they will, as a secretariat, miss the departure of the then Secretary-General, saying, “We enjoyed a very good working relationship with him (Ambassador Foh) and we will continue to pray for his success even when he departs for China”
Responding, the new Secretary-General, Ambassador Osman Yansaneh informed those present of how he felt honored “to come over again as Secretary-General of the party “, referring to the party as his “home”. He also thanked Ambassador Foh for his dedication to service all the years and encouraged all to ensure, the sacrifices made by the party do not down away.
Ambassador Yansaneh also said there is every need for continuity and stability to be within the party and promised to give himself to the party. “I will do my best to ensure everyone is comfortable in the Secretariat”, he said.
Meanwhile, in a development, Ambassador Foh on the 9th May 2013 led a delegation of APC officials, including the newly elected Secretary-General of the party and the out-gone Organizing Secretary on a courtesy call on the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone.
Speaking during the courtesy call, Ambassador Foh informed officials of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone that the APC is a living organism that gets stronger daily. China, he said has been supporting Sierra Leone in her development programmes, for which Sierra Leone is appreciative.
The China/Sierra Leone friendship, Ambassador Foh said has been on for years as started by then President Siaka Stevens of Sierra Leone and Chairman Mao of China. His appointment to China as Ambassador, Ambassador Foh said, is a translation of the existing relationship between the two countries and promised to not only further strengthen the diplomatic and people-to-people relationship between China and Sierra Leone, but to work towards lifting the bars of political diplomacy. “We are also going to expand on the cultural relationship between the two countries”, Ambassador Foh said.
Similar statements were also shared by Ambassador Yansaneh, the new Secretary-General of the APC who recalled the leading role he played in the formation of the Sierra Leone-China friendship association. The APC, Ambassador Yansaneh said, will continue to partner with the Communist Party of China.
Responding, the Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in Sierra Leone Fan Xiaodong extended congratulatory messages on behalf of the Communist Party of China, to the APC for the recently concluded delegates’ conference. The APC and the CPC, he said, have continued to enjoy traditional friendship over the years and that China is appreciative of the support that Sierra Leone has continued to give China, especially in terms of how Sierra Leone supported them in ensuring their entrance into the UN General Assembly.
Speaking on the recent visit to Africa by President Xi Jinping of China, the Deputy Chief of Mission said, such a visit signaled the importance that China attaches to Africa and that with the commitment of China to pour 20 billion dollars in Africa; this will further strengthen the relationship between China and Africa.
