Addressing parents, guidance, teachers pupils and onlookers in the various exam centers the Chairperson for Bonthe District Council, Madam Rita Ngadi Savage, said the council intervened in the NPSE exam due to the constrains/challenges the children undergo taking the exams. She said most of the school pupils travelled a distance, some from the areas along the river-line, and some of their parents lacked provision to support their children.  She said a lot of school pupils normally arrive tired and hungry as they arrive at the various centers.

She noted that as a council providing basic support to school pupils at chiefdom and district level the move also forms part of their corporate social responsibility.  She said with those basic needs, pupils could concentrate on their exam and do better.

She recalled that the imitative was developed by her in one of the council meetings immediately she took over the mantle of leadership in the District council.  She said that before now a needs assessment survey had been done and support to school pupils in the district had been made a priority. She said the whole process started in one of chiefdoms in the district and at the end there was a need to spread the support to all other chiefdoms.  She said, to support the entire chiefdom councilors and other stakeholders in the council were involved and this was backed by the Members of Parliaments, and Local Councils among others.  She said based on that, a task was given to all councilors to get the total number of NPSE pupils for the 2013 academic year in all the chiefdoms in Bonthe.

According to the Supervisor of Schools Bonthe Joseph Lahai said their mandate is monitor the conduct of the exams on behalf of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology. He said before the exam candidate for the exam assemble and principal of the center address them about the conduct of the exams.

He said at 8:30 a.m., candidates were asked to go into their respective examination rooms and parents were asked to move out of the vicinity of the school centers.  He affirmed that those outside the examination center were brought and fed by the district council.
