CPA Ends Seminar in Sierra Leone
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has concluded a two-day training of Members of Parliament in Sierra Leone.
The seminar, which ended past Friday, April 12, was geared towards building the capacity of newly elected Members of Parliament to enable them function efficiently and effectively in the performance of their democratic duties. It also served as a refresher course for returning MPs.
In his closing remarks, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Justice Abel Nathaniel Stronge extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Secretary General of the CPA, Dr. William F. Shija and his eminent team for such a wonderful training.
He expressed delight for having the privilege to host distinguished personalities like the CPA Secretary General and other delegates from Ghana, South Africa and the United Kingdom, calling on the MPs to put into practice all what they learnt from the training. Hon. Stronge described the training as timely and significant for the 124 MPs, 66% of whom he said are new in parliament.
Abel Stronge concluded by advising that though the MPs are from various political parties with divergent ideologies, they should act as one family, representing the views of Sierra Leoneans, doing so without regional, tribal, religious or political considerations.
