Sierra Leonean artist Alim Kamara iIgnites!
Hip-hop artist, motivational mentor, spiritual storyteller and poet Alim Kamara has brought home another award! The rising star won the award for “Sierra Leone’s Most Impressive MC/Entertainer” at The Calabash Magazine Unsung Heroes Ceremony on Saturday April 6th 2013. A surprise to a few, however expected from many that have witnessed his unintentional role of being persuaded to host weddings, which lead to Alim being requested to compere highly prestigious events for corporate organizations such as BT, The Bernie Grants Arts Centre and Close Up’s live music night, to name a few. Salone True Fans had this to say: ‘He clearly has a skill of connecting with an audience of any type.’
Of course you cannot say Alim Kamara without talking about his thought providing storytelling and music. His Reciting Rainbows album which is free on his website (www.alimkamara.com) has received rave reviews and reached number 1 in the ReverbNation charts. Along with his Griot Collection storytelling album available on iTunes, Kamara continues to exceed all expectations.
Formidably challenging the thoughts of the young, the community activist has held workshops in schools and youth clubs across UK regions and beyond. Breaking cultural barriers through his art, he has become a credible asset to his homeland thriving off helping young people back in Sierra Leone, a commendable trait that defies the stereotypical characteristics of hip-hop artists to date. Alim Kamara has reaped the rewards of his humility and hosting talent, being invited to grace stages with international superstars such as Beyoncé Knowles and also UK political figure Tony Blair, contributing to the “Education for All” song which featured many well known football players.
Gaining mass accreditation received from his motherland Sierra Leone, the UK based BEFFTA inspiration award winning artist has room for creative expansion as his list of artistic endeavours continues to grow. Expect the release of his first ever storytelling mixtape to surface soon along with The Alim Kamara App, which is now available on all Apple and on Android devices. The app is an intimate invitation into Kamara’s childhood, displaying inspirational tales and lessons.
