Immigration Officers in Dubious Deal

In spite of frantic efforts by the Chief Immigration Officer (CIO), Alpha Kolifa Kamara (in photo), to repair the battered image of the Immigration Department, certain money-hungry and unpatriotic immigration officers continue to blemish the name of the department through their shady deals which have started coming to light.

Travelers from abroad have reported that the immigration officers at the Lungi International Airport are in the habit of extorting money from them, a report that has been confirmed by a relative of one of the affected travelers, Lansana Koroma who has accused Salifu Conteh and his team of extorting Le10,000 from Sierra Leoneans and Le25,000  from foreign nationals, an accusation to which Salifu Conteh and his men are yet to respond.

However, the travelers are calling on the Head of Immigration, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and other concerned authorities to institute stringent measures to put a stop to what they called, the exploitative behavior of the officers, describing it as shameless and as an embarrassment to not only the Immigration Department but also the entire country.

Meanwhile, the Chief Immigration Officer is yet to make a statement on the concerns and allegations raised by the travelers.
