Employee Dies in Penury
A local employee of the Blue Moon Wine Factory at Wellington, East of Freetown, has died in penury with his employers doing little or nothing to foot the bill for the funeral not to talk of his family receiving his benefits.
This reporter gathered that Kamanda, a salesman at the factory died a fortnight ago while still in active service.
The reports add that even though Kamanda served the company for over one year, management is yet to pay his relatives his benefits.
The Managing Director of the factory, only known as Mega, donated Le 80,000 towards the funeral arrangements but with the intervention of some police and military officers, he added Le.100,000 totaling Le180, 000.
Poor working conditions and neglect of workers is the order of the day at the factory, this medium reliably gathered.
Furthermore, the company does not respect labor laws and workers are not entitled to medical care and other facilities in addition to being subjected to inhuman treatment with the Ministry of Labor doing nothing to address the issue.
