Moijueh Kaikai, the Hajj Mission and 2013 Hajj

Moijueh Kaikai, the Hajj Mission and 2013 Hajj

In 2010, Eric Bobson Gamanga, former Acting Head of Chancery at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh was officially deployed by the newly inaugurated Sierra Leone National Hajj Coordinating Committee (SLHCC) to serve as Hajj Coordinator – a post which must be held by a competent, intelligent and experienced Embassy official to work in close cooperation and collaboration with the Chairman of the Hajj Mission.

Eric was nominated by the Embassy for that position – a nomination which was graciously approved by the Hajj Committee.  The Committee later discovered that Eric possesses the aforementioned qualities and many say he did remarkably well in the discharge of his duties as the 2010 Hajj Coordinator which they described as “excellently successful.”

Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, Chairman of the 2010 Hajj Mission to Saudi Arabia who also doubled as Labour, Employment and Social Security Minister told me in an exclusive interview shortly before they left the Holy land for Freetown in December, 2010 that: “There was transparency and accountability in the management and disbursement of the finances for the 2010 Hajj that was entrusted with the Embassy’s Representative by his Committee.”

It would be recalled that before Government took over the organization of the hajj in 2010, Sierra Leone pilgrims underwent difficulties in terms of accommodation, feeding, transportation, to name but a few. But with Government’s intervention, their problems got minimized.

The Hajj Committee has been trying to improve the welfare of the pilgrims every year and the newly appointed Minister of Social Welfare, Moijueh Kaikai says in a telephone interview this evening that his Ministry will work closely with the Hajj Committee and the Embassy to ensure a much more successful hajj this year.

“By next week, we shall start holding meetings on this year’s hajj. We are currently working on early preparations, nation- wide sensitization on hajj rituals, among other vital issues relating to hajj,” the new Minister said on the phone.

Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma had been very instrumental in making the Hajj successful in terms of fiscal assistance to the pilgrims to help reduce some of their huge expenses since he was elected in 2007.
