British Airways launches operation in Sierra Leone

Ian Petrie, Regional Commercial Manager for Africa said that British Airways now flies to more African countries than before. He made this disclosure to a battery of press while launching flight operations of British Airways in Sierra Leone.

Petrie noted that this flight started its operations on 27th October 2012 from Sierra Leone, and eight years ago in Africa, with a total of eighteen routes.   “Our operations have been successful and so we are not afraid of competition as we can boast of ten Sierra Leoneans working in the office and others working at the airport,” Ian Petrie said and furthered that they consider Freetown a significant addition to their African network.  The flight with a 172 seating capacity, operates three times a week from its base at London Heathrow’s Terminal 5.

British Airways  also announced that from 12th May, 2013 it will increase its services to Kenya to eight times a week and confirmed an additional three weekly flights to Johannesburg in addition to the existing double daily schedule.  It has also upgraded its website, www.ba.com, making it easier to navigate and find out more about flight schedules, connections, and a range of other products and services.

“Although we are new to Sierra Leone we are by no means new to Africa.  As we have done in other markets around the continent, we will differentiate ourselves by the products we provide in the air and on the ground, as well as the service and value we offer,” said Petrie.

To celebrate the new route British Airways is currently offering a World Traveler Plus return fare of $599, (excluding taxes) which is about a 40% discount.  The promotional offer starts on 14 March 2013 and runs for one month.
