ALMA welcomes the appointment of the UNSG’s Special Envoy for Financing of the Health Related Millennium Development Goals

The African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), commends Mr. Raymond Chambers on his new appointment as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Financing of the Health Related Millennium Development Goals and the renewal of his appointment as the Special Envoy for Malaria. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Mr. Chambers in this new capacity.

Mr. Chambers has proven to be a strong advocate in the battle against malaria. The members of ALMA value his support in strengthening both public and private partnerships, which has been invaluable and has accelerated our fight against malaria.

During the ALMA Luncheon of Heads of State and Government on 28th January, 2013 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mr. Chambers emphasized the urgent need to meet the $3.6 billion dollar malaria funding gap for developing countries. The ALMA chair made the call for funding and a big push which we are partnering with the Special Envoy to address.

We are confident that in his expanded role, Mr. Chambers will work tirelessly with our governments and partner organizations to mobilize the funding needed to eliminate preventable malaria-related deaths by 2015.
