Windfall for Murray Town School
“Make it Happen”, a charity organization based in Sierra Leone, on Wednesday 27th February, 2013 handed over the keys of the newly refurbished ultra modern eight room toilet building to authorities of the Murray Town Municipal Primary School and Junior Secondary School at Murray Town in Freetown. Speaking to this press, the Managing Director of J J Engineering and Construction Company, Mr. James Jonah, said that it was a difficult task to construct both the perimeter fence and the toilet, but that as a professional engineer, everything was successful within the period of six weeks for which he thanked the Mayor of Freetown, Country Director of Make It Happen, and the heads of the school for their support.
His Lordship the Mayor of Freetown, Bode Gibson, in his address, appealed to the pupils not to misuse the facility. “Such developments have delighted me to do more to this school,” he stated, applauding the contractor and sponsor.
The Principal of the school, Mr. Wusu Samura, said that before now, the school compound had no perimeter fence, “this school was exposed to hooligans, diamba smokers and was used as a brothel. Our desks, benches and other school properties were being stolen on a regular basis, but today, ‘Make It Happen’ organization has made it happen for us to be secure and I must be grateful to the CEO of the organization Michael Collins,” the principal remarked.
Addressing the jam packed gathering at the school compound, ‘Make It Happen’ Country Director, Madam Doreen Fergusson, praised the contractors for a job well done. She sincerely appealed to community people and school authorities for the maintenance and sustainability of the school and assured the authorities that “Make It Happen” will upgrade the school to an ultra modern school in due course.
The primary school was built since 1820, and the secondary school in 2005 and the school is currently having about 1,600 pupils and 45 teachers.
