UN Peace Building Fund dele engages House on good governance

Freetown, February  (SLENA): A ten-man delegation from the UN Peace Building Fund has engaged parliament on information sharing on the process of UN support to the country on good governance.

Welcoming the delegation, Speaker of the House, Justice Abel Stronge (in photo) expressed gratitude to the team for visiting the Sierra Leone Parliament and went further to explain the structures and functions of the house, highlighting the challenges facing it while executing those functions.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Chernor Bah informed the delegation about the contribution of IOM through the UN PBF in the recruitment of staff of parliament.  

In her contribution, the minority leader, Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai spoke on the gender inclusion in the politics of Sierra Leone and the 30% quota for women’s participations in politics. She also dilated on the UN-Sierra Leone relationship in shaping the political landscape of the country.

Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Sesay while commending the delegation for the visit, expressed his appreciation of the UN family support parliament in particular and the country at large and called on the delegation to extend its support to parliamentarians at constituency level.
