Jesse Mahlon Lebby – Simplicity is the essence of good music
Simplicity in music. This is the watchword of Jesse Mahlon Lebby singer/songwriter, producer and founder of Jem Recordings.
Mahlon grew up on a diet of Gospel music, the popular music of Motown and Lennon and McCartney that his parents used to play at home.
‘I learned how to make simple, catchy music by listening to Gospel artists, the Beatles and all the great Motown acts”, he recalls. He taught himself the basics of guitar, drums and the piano whilst still very young and started writing songs.
Since his first live gig, Mahlon has graced such prestigious places as the Rock Garden, Ronnie Scotts where has won a singer song writing competition.
In the late 1980’s Mahlon together with some of his friends formed a gospel group called “Friends” that performed in various venues up and down the country with good degree of success.
Driven by the need to fulfill his musical abilities and expand his musical experience Mahlon joined a band called ‘Blend’ where has was lead singer in the early 1990’s.
Mahlon’s musical odyssey resulted in him co-founding yet another group – ‘Maria Smiles’, a four piece combo that specialised in an eclectic mix of musical genres. In 2000 Mahlon formed ‘The Mahlon Lebby Band’ in which he explored a wide variety of musical genres through his compositions and live performances.
In recent years Mahlon has concentrated on developing his song writing and production skills and has collaborated with various artists and groups in this regard.
