World Vision Manager turns hero in Sierra Leone

Proprietor of Leone Lodge, formerly Taia Resort, Mr. Wilfred Sam King, has branded Admin and Chain Supply Manager of World Vision International, Mr. Dwight Jones (in photo), a hero owing to his selfless rescue mission that saved lives and properties worth millions of dollars in an inferno that almost gutted the top floor of the building past weekend.

Witnesses accounted that although the timely intervention of Mr. Dwight Jones was deemed worthwhile, he however sustained twenty-eight stitches wound on his right limb. This press visited the Davidson-Nicol Hospital in the west of Freetown where the World Vision executive was on crutches. He recounted that he was on a routine jogging exercise along Lumley Beach when he noticed flames emerging from the roof top of the magnificent edifice when he alerted occupants about the threat.

Jones added that his alarm did not yield much fruit as by-standers were frightened to confront the raging inferno. Jones volunteered and put his life on the line for the love of humanity. Jones then broke into the combusting floor, using a fire extinguisher which was at hand to fight the fire. The World Vision hero was able to rescue a European guest who was fast asleep and was not aware of the imminent danger and another employee who had already been trapped by the flames.

Lamenting, Dwight Jones explained how he kicked against a glass panel to put out the fire in one of the rooms where he eventually sustained the injury. The rescuer was thereafter rushed to the hospital where he received treatment.

He showered enormous praise on the proprietor, Sam King and his employees who, according to him, stormed the hospital to express sympathy and demonstrate heartfelt appreciation to the wounded victim for an exemplary and heroic display of statesmanship.

“Sam King is a humanist. He keeps calling on my phone at frequent intervals to check on my condition and other members of staff also expressed interest. Although I sustained injury, I am delighted that I was able to demonstrate the spirit of nationalism and love for other people…” Jones admitted and added that his medical bills were honored by Mr. Sam King for which he is extremely grateful.

Proprietor Sam King told Sierra Express Media that Mr. Dwight Jones has proven to be a hero for his life saving prowess and extolled the World Vision for maintaining such a dedicated and resourceful manager as Mr. Jones, stating that it is no surprise that the international NGO has always achieved its goals in the country especially in the areas of health and education. He entreated Sierra Leoneans to love one another and to be each other’s keeper.
