PRC meeting opens in Addis Ababa

Ambassador Andrew Gbebay Bangali (in photo), Sierra Leone’s Envoy to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia yesterday (21st January 2013) attended the Twenty-Fifth Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) meeting at the new Conference Centre of the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa. This year’s African Union Summit is themed: “Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance”.

The PRC is composed of Ambassadors of Member States who are accredited to the Commission and is charged with the responsibility of preparing the work of the Executive Council ahead of the Summit.

The PRC will discuss the reports of the various Sub-Committees of the Commission and the AU Organs which will be tabled before the Foreign Ministers.

Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission who officially declared the meeting opened, spoke about the ongoing transformation taking place in the Continent. She said Africa is growing and people’s perception has changed thus strengthening the institutional capacity of the Commission.

Also Benin’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and Chair of the PRC Mr. Ferdinand Montcho noted that the PRC will examine the reports of the Commission before forwarding them to the Executive Council.

The meeting which will end today (22nd January) was also attended by Sierra Leone’s Deputy Chief of Mission to Ethiopia, Mr. Amadu Koroma; Mr. James Sawi, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation; Mr. Ibrahim Kondoh, Director, Africa Division Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation and Mrs. Juliana Hawa Fallah, First Secretary Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Addis Ababa.

Meanwhile, erstwhile Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health and Under-Secretary-General and Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Mrs. Zainab Hawa Bangura arrived yesterday in Addis Ababa to attend the African Union Summit. Mrs. Bangura is expected to address the PRC.
