Nanette Thomas is Activist of the Year

Nanette Thomas, National Coordinator of the Attitudinal and Behavioral Change (ABC) Secretariat, was among distinguished Sierra Leoneans awarded by the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) for their various contributions towards strengthening democracy in the country over the years. The ABC second-in-command was named as the country’s Activist of the Year in the award ceremony held at the British Council Hall, Tower Hill on the 20th December 2012.

Nanette Thomas’s award did not come as a surprise to Sierra Leoneans or even foreigners residing in the country.

Nanette Thomas is a household name in Sierra Leone when it comes to activism. Apart from her job description at the ABC Secretariat which makes it a must for her to be an attitudinal and behavioral change activist, the dynamic woman of substance has seized on each and every opportunity to fight various courses ranging from women’s issues, to youths,  corruption,  and good governance.

This award adds to the numerous awards she has received over the years for her selfless effort in not only moving the country forward but in shaping the lives of youths, women, children and even the elderly folks.

It is no exaggeration to state that Madam Thomas is almost always on the radio airwaves or television screens or newspaper pages in pursuance of her activism.

Sylvia Blyden was awarded as Mother of the Year, Ivan Ajibola Thomas as Father of the Year, Murtala Mohamed Kamara as Journalist of the Year and AYV Radio as Best Entertainment Radio of the Year, among others.
