Gbonkolenken to Honor Illustrious Daughter

Plans are well underway for the people of Gbonkolenken Chiefdom, Tonkolili District to honor a distinguished daughter of the soil, Mary J. Bangura who is also the All Peoples Congress (APC) Women’s Leader for the North America Branch.  The ceremony will soon be held in the chiefdom headquarter town of Yele.

According to Pa Alpha Conteh, one of the elders in the Chiefdom, the ceremony is to recognize Mary J. Bangura for her numerous contributions and selfless service to the people of the chiefdom citing as example the award of scholarships to numerous pupils in schools, universities and vocational Institutions and construction of the Gbonkolenken Descendants Guest House at Yele.

He continued that Mary J. Bangura has also worked relentlessly to ensure that the party attracts supporters in the chiefdom resulting to the APC winning all the parliamentary and local council seats in the district.

An APC supporter, Mr. Hassan Bangura said the party has gained mass popularity in the chiefdom through intensive campaigning and mobilizing of youths by Madam Mary Bangura asserting that most supporters of other parties have declared for the APC.

He further lauded the efforts of the APC members in the Diaspora for their invaluable contributions to the development of the chiefdom.

Mary J. Bangura on Friday 23rd November, 2012 said that the North America Branch is organizing programs to attract supporters in the Diaspora to consolidate the gains of the party not only in America but other parts of Europe.

He also disclosed that they have donated vehicles and other items to the party to facilitate its work and lauded government, especially President Ernest Bai Koroma, for the developments taking place in the country in the areas of infrastructure, education, electricity, healthcare, sports, the economy and the creation of job opportunities for youths.

According to Mary J. Bangura, the country would continue to improve during the second term of the President and asserted  that this confidence was demonstrated by the over 58% votes he scored in the polls concluding that the APC is a grassroots and development-oriented party.
