APC condemns SLPP’s political attacks on PMDC and APC in the South
Freetown, November 3rd 2012: The APC National Presidential Campaign Committee totally condemns in no uncertain term the attacks on supporters of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) by partisans of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party in the city of Bo, Southern Sierra Leone.
According to preliminary investigation, political violence erupted in Bo when supporters of the main opposition SLPP, led by their mayoral candidate Harold Tucker came out on the official campaign day of the opposition PMDC on Friday 1st November, 2012.
Supporters of the PMDC including Foday Lumeh (aka Salone Money), a school teacher Alfred Harding and Ibrahim Jalloh were beaten up and stabbed by SLPP supporters. The victims were rushed to hospital to save their lives. The SLPP Mayoral candidate, Mr. Harold Tucker confirmed the attack on the PMDC youths in a telephone conversation with the APC Secretariat but referred to it as a misunderstanding.
The APC-NPCC views these developments as deliberate and calculated attempts by the SLPP to disrupt the peaceful electoral process, and therefore reiterates its call to the Police, NEC and the PPRC to put these ugly developments under control.
The APC condemns any form of political violence during this important period of our nation’s democracy; and expresses its sympathies to the victims of the electoral violence of the SLPP. The APC also urges its supporters to remain calm and focus on ensuring peaceful elections.
