EU Election Observer Mission Meets President Koroma

Led by Chief Observer Richard Howitt from Great Britain, along with others from twenty-seven counties including central Europe, the European Union Election Observer Mission in Sierra Leone has on Thursday 4th October 2012 called on President Koroma at his office in Freetown and briefed him about their mandate in the approaching elections.

Welcoming the delegation at State House President Koroma commended the EU and expressed his profound appreciations for the Union’s continued support to the government.

He said government will ensure that all modalities are put in place including supporting institutions for the conduct of free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections.

President Koroma declared government’s fullest commitment towards up keeping Sierra Leone’s democratic credentials to further strengthen its stance on democracy.

The Head of State maintained that government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the elections are violent free, fair and transparent.

He reiterated that government will continue to cooperate with the observer team in facilitating their work throughout the electoral process and wished them rewarding and peaceful in the country whilst performing their duties.

Briefing President Koroma earlier, Chief Observer Mr. Howitt said that his team will be having one hundred EU observers as short term service for the November 17th elections, at a cost of about three million Euros as a sustainable amount to carry out the process.
