Financial Institution Swindles Millions in Sierra Leone
A non-governmental micro-finance organization named Lift Above Poverty; a multi-purpose cooperative which was established just this year in Kenema, on the pretext of increasing stakes of its customers on cash deposit, has reportedly swindled many customers and the Director is currently on the run with monies of it’s customers.
In a random interview with aggrieved customers, comments as to what they make of this unwelcomed development, a customer by the name of Mohamed Lamin said he has contributed the sum of Le 600,000 which should have earned him an interest of Le 4,000,000 (Le4M).
Mohamed Lamin, said that he gathered courage to invest his cash into the organization after he discovered that there were household names in the Kenema District working with the organization, such as Joseph Samba Keifala Jr., son of J. S. Keifala SLPP mayoral aspirant in Kenema, Emmanuel Dassama of Radio Nongowa, and Philip Koroma of Eastern Radio Communication and Research Officer.
He added that he was surprised to hear on Sunday September 23rd that the manager, marketing manager and the chief accountant of the organization were all in police custody at the Kenema Police Station for illegal operation and failing to pay back monies belonging to customers.
It is revealed that the Director of the said organization is on the run, after he cashed out the sum of Le3 billion which is money belonging to customers.
Up until press time Emmanuel Dassama the Marketing Manager, Keifala Jr. Manger and Phillip Koroma Chief Accountant are currently in police custody.
