ABC Executives lecture fire fighters on ‘self moral courage’

The Executives of the Attitudinal and Behavioral Change (ABC) Secretariat, Dr. Ivan Ajibola Thomas and Madam Nanette Thomas as part of its programs, has lectured workers of the National Fire Force (NFF) on self moral courage in the line of executing national duties. The lecture was held on Wednesday 19th September 2012 at the National Fire Force building at Tower Hill, Freetown.  (Photo: cross section of the fire fighters with the ABC Secretariat national coordinator and second in command, Nanette Thomas)

Madam Nanette Thomas, National Coordinator and Second-in-Command of the ABC Secretariat, in her well-composed and delivered lecture, encouraged the fire fighters to remain patriotic to the nation and committed and loyal to their job.

Change of attitudes from negative to positive is the key towards the development of the nation, she said, while emphasizing the must for the workers to exercise their duties with diligence, patriotism, and responsibility. National development, she said, should be the primary concern of each and every patriotic Sierra Leonean.

Madam Thomas called on the workers to stay united among themselves at all times for the good of their office in particular and the country as a whole.

“It pays to work as a unified force so that the atmosphere of hate does not exist in the work place,” she said.  According to her, the time for all Sierra Leoneans to take ownership of the country is now. She spoke of the importance for Sierra Leoneans to support and compliment the good work that is being done by His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. “The business of uplifting Sierra Leone to higher heights should not be left in the hands of the central government alone,” she said.  The ABC Secretariat Second-in-Command advised the NFF staff to always endeavor to put up their best performance in their job. She further warned them to desist from the habit of back-biting and transmitting wrong information in their quest for undue promotions.

In his statement, the Executive Director of the ABC Secretariat, Dr. Ivan Ajibola Thomas said it is an open secret that Sierra Leone is currently in an unenviable position in terms of world ranking. “This is a very unfortunate thing for a country that used to produce and export goods and services to various parts of the world,” he disclosed, reiterating that Sierra Leone used to be referred to as the Athens of West Africa because of its educational prowess back then. According to him, lack of maintaining culture in all spheres succeeded in destroying the good legacies of the country.

“Negative attitude of Sierra Leoneans is killing the country,” he said.

He reminded the fire fighters to always see themselves as public servants. He accepted the fact that the workers might not be earning enough when it comes to financial remuneration, but spoke of the importance for them to remain patriotic for the good of the nation.

On their part, the NFF workers thanked the ABC Secretariat for the lecture, as according to them, it was very timely.  They used the forum as an opportunity to explain the constraints they are currently faced with in the line of duty; logistics and security problems are among the major challenges they are currently faced with and it was stressed that government look into the many problems faced by the organization.
