CCYA undertakes Youth Leadership Transformation and Non violence training

The training component of the project is to contribute to supporting a constructive youth engagement and empowerment in the democratic process in Sierra Leone.
The initiative seeks to empower the leadership of young people in a strategic and long term civic engagement on leadership development, knowledge in electoral laws relating to non violence in elections; political participation as well as conflict prevention related modules.
The overall objective of the capacity building according to the National Coordinator of the Center for Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA) Mr. Ngolo Katta is to provide youth with life skill opportunities for meaningful youth engagement within democratization processes in Sierra Leone.
He said the trainings will strengthen existing youth networks within specific blocks such as political parties; civic youth groups; and the already established Youth Action Networks (YAN).
Mr. Ngolo Katta said after the training the young people will commit to a set criterion that focuses on Non- Violence campaign, engagement in national level policy processes and willingness to volunteer in national service.

CCYA he said has completed residential training for over one hundred youths in Northern Sierra Leone drawn from Port Loko, Kambia, Koinadugu and Bombali and Eastern Region comprising of Kono, Kailahun and Kenema. Training for youths in Southern Sierra Leone is expected to take place soon.
The high moment of the trainings in the Capital Freetown will bring together youths and their leaderships from the western rural district as well as urban Freetown it would also bring on board all key players from the elections management bodies; political parties; security apparatuses and youth policy makers to interact with youths on leadership transformation and non violence election.
Mr. Ngolo Katta while addressing youths during the training said since CCYA was formed they have been able to transformed and profile many youths, adding that they are presently engaging youths on livelihood support, sensitization of youth on Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Sexually Transmitted Infections and sustainable leadership training on election violence.
He said after the training the youth leaders are expected to be vibrant in ensuring their politicians are transparent and accountable to them at community level and they can also respond to conflict related issues during and after the 2012 election.
The Political Parties Registration Commission Gender Officer Elizabeth Kamara expressed thanks and appreciation to CCYA and the youth representatives for their timeless interval in calming their colleagues on non violence and also properly explained about the PPRC code of conduct for political parties which she said clearly spelt out what is expected of them during and after elections.
The Bombali district Election Officer for National Electoral Commission AbuBakrr Javombo commended CCYA for taking the lead in sensitizing youths on non violence which according to him have help them greatly in their work. He described electioneering process as the peaceful means of making positive decision over community people or the country for a specific period of time.
