55 year old grandmother raped and looted by 23 year old
23 year old Mohamed Kamara of No. 23 Hagan Street, Freetown, allegedly raped 55 year old Kadiatu at a place called Cow Yard, off Hagan Street, at around 2 a.m. on 30th August.
The 55 year old lamented that she traveled from a village with bags of beans and on her arrival she sought a laborer and thought Mohamed Kamara was one. She hired him to take the beans to a nearby store for safe-keeping. The survivor further complained that on their way Mohamed diverted to Cow Yard where she protested and followed her assailant. Mohamed dropped the bag of beans, took out a knife, and threatened to stab her and forced her to have sex. “He tore my clothes and raped me. I cried for help but before anyone came to my aid he snatched my handbag and escaped”, she explained.
He was chased by some people to his house in the neighborhood and when the police got their Mohamed had concealed the sum of Le500,000 from the woman’s bag, and a gold plated necklace and bracelet also reported to be in the bag were found in his possession together with a broken knife that he used in the attack.
Sgt. 4956 Abu Bakarr Kamara of the Eastern Police FSU told this press that the offence is grave and therefore the suspect, who is presently in custody, will be charged to Court for rape and robbery with aggravation.
The 55 year old woman has already visited the Rainbow Centre Hospital and she is undergoing treatment for wounds she sustained as a result of the scuffle.
