“Doping is all about cheating’’- Dr Patrick Coker

The Medical Doctor of the Sierra Leone Olympic delegation, Dr Patrick Coker (in photo) who also doubles as Vice President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), has said that doping is all about cheating, which the entire International Olympic Committee is against.

He made such statement after some athletes have tested positive over the few days since the commencement of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

He said the Olympic Games are about fair play as they want every athlete to compete on the same level playing field and that is why all the games he has attended, all those who came first and second are always drug tested after the race, but this time around they have gone beyond that to also tested the 3rd and 4th athletes.

He also revealed that some of these athletes are tested before the games and even when these athletes are in the village they are tested even when they not yet participating in the games.

He also stated that testing athletes is to not to punish them but to prevent other athletes from taking drugs during such games.

When asked about the state of the Sierra Leone athletes concerning doping, Dr Coker said  Sierra Leonean  athletes are not known of doping and they have been lectured back home and at the Olympic village.
