Youth Coalition threatens NEC

President of the National Youth Commission, Ishmael AL-Sankoh Conteh has said in Freetown that his commission would institute legal action against the National Electoral Commission (NEC) for the anomalies they registered in the course of the just concluded Biometric Voters Registration (BVR) exercise.

His statement reacted to an earlier response from the NEC Chairperson, Dr. Christiana Thorpe (in photo) referring to his alarmist ideology as out of place in describing the just concluded BVR process as out flawed.

NEC boss was quoted as saying that the Youth Commissioner has little knowledge of the biometric exercise. It was reported in some quarters of the local media that the Youth Commissioner requested an extension of time to allow voters ample time to collect their ID cards.

Al- Sankoh said his coalition has recorded a case of 2,000 people whose faces were misplaced due to inconsistency of the system, adding that 21,000 persons have not yet received their voter IDs while there is a case of another 7,000 persons whose identities were juxtaposed.
