President Koroma Mourns With SLPP

Freetown: His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma has witnessed the Official and Civic Laying-out ceremony for the late Honourable Momoh Pujeh, Parliamentary Leader SLPP and Minority Party Leader at the State Hall of Parliament Building, Tower Hill.

The late Honourable Momoh Pujeh was born on the 8th of March 1948 in a small town called Gbangeima Yawei Chiefdom, North East of Kailahun District.  He was an outstanding and exceptional student who after his GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels left for the United States of America where he enrolled to study Medicine which turned out to be prohibitively expensive.  Having completed his studies with an MBA major in Accounting he returned home in 1981 and took up a teaching job at the Ansarul Islamic Secondary School in Gandorhun Kpaneh Chiefdom in Kono District.

As government Minister in two different ministries Hon. Momoh Pujeh performed with distinction and displayed impeccable qualities.  In 2009, the late Honourable Momoh Pujeh was unanimously elected Minority Leader in Parliament, a role he performed with admiration even from other party Parliamentarians, until his demise on the 17th of May 2012.

Giving a tribute to the late Hon. Momoh Pujeh, Majority Party (APC) Leader in Parliament, Hon. S.B.B. Dumbuya said apart from Parliamentarians, the late man had a wide circle of friends amongst whom he inspired respect and affection.  He added that he was a likeable person, whom many became fond of because of his easy and elegant manners, saying many more were attracted to him on account of his pleasing and charming disposition.

Hon. S.B.B. Dumbuya pointed out that for those of them who were friends of Momoh Pujeh in politics and in other circles, could readily testify to the fact that he was an immensely abled person and always enjoyed the reputation of proving his mettle each time he was charged with a responsibility. The Majority Leader of Parliament pointed out that the late Hon. Momoh Pujeh was a dyed-in the wool SLPP member, a chronic SLPP man would say, somebody who would not compromise his SLPP allegiance for anything else.  But all of that notwithstanding he maintained whenever issues came up for debate in Parliament which concerned the country, particularly where Sierra Leone was to benefit in the process, the late man would be largely objective, giving support where it was necessary but ruthlessly critical of anything he considered improper or objectionable.  Hon. S.B.B. Dumbuya further described the late man as an exceedingly good man, a remarkable man and a sincere and dependable friend.

SLPP Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Emmanuel Tommy said the late Hon. Momoh Pujeh was a very conservative and brave man who never believed in rhetoric, adding that he was patriotic, which side of his nature was demonstrated while in Parliament as Minority Leader. Hon. Tommy further explained that whenever he got up to speak in Parliament he spoke as a nationalist and patriotic Sierra Leonean pointing out that he was a selfless man who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of many people around him including himself.

PMDC Representative, Hon. Siaka Musa Sama said the day marks a sad moment in the history of Sierra Leone because the country has lost a man who believes in the Sierra Leonean identity.  He noted that the late Momoh Pujeh allowed his party identity to blind him from the fact that they were all Sierra Leoneans regardless of their party affiliations. Hon. Siaka Musa Sama said the best way to remember him was to continue with the examples he has set for all Parliamentarians, maintaining that there was no way Sierra Leone could develop without the whole country being developed.

The PMDC Member of Parliament described the late Hon. Momoh Pujeh as a Leader that has earned respect for himself, and that could motivate others.  He cautioned that whilst mourning for him, they should be reminded that death is the ultimate end of a human being, and prayed that God grants him eternal rest and peace and that the family be protected.

Giving a tribute on behalf of the Paramount Chief Members of Parliament, Paramount Chief Bai Kurr Kanagbaro Sanka said the passing away of the late Hon. Momoh Pujeh was a loss not only for the SLPP, but also the entire country. He added that the late man was an intelligent debater and was very good in listening to speakers before making his point, and as Minority Leader, he advocated issues based on facts as he understood the works of politics and government.  Paramount Chief Bai Kurr Kanagbaro Sanka noted that the late man was a respecter of authority and will point out the short comings of a motion or a bill but at the end he would support it if it suits the interests of the government and the nation.

In continuation with tributes to the memory of the late Hon. Momoh Pujeh, a close friend Mr. Braima said the late man’s ambition was to become a Medical Doctor but due to lack of Medical School in Sierra Leone and financial opportunities, he decided to solicit support from his elder brother.  Mr. Braima.

Also noted that the late Hon. Pujeh was a true friend and brother to him and had known him for fifty years. He revealed that the late man was a loving personality with an avowed tendency to reach out not only to his immediate family members, friends, but also to the less fortunate people round him.

He further stated that he was a great politician and a devoted believer in God who exhibited a high degree of religious tolerance.  Mr. Braima said his death is a huge loss not only to his family and friends but also to the nation as a whole.

Acting Mayor Alhaji Gibril Kanu said the late Hon. Momoh Pujeh was determined to succeed in life no matter what the circumstance, adding that he was very hardworking, honest, committed and dedicated.  He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the SLPP Party for the irreparable loss of their dear one.
