The awareness raising exercise was through a drama performance on corruption and the need for collaborative efforts to fight it, by members of the Birch Memorial Integrity Club with the support of the Anti-Corruption Commission in their school hall on June 16th 2012.

Addressing the pupils prior to the commencement of the skit, the Principal of the Senior Secondary School, Mr. James Jalloh reminded the pupils that corruption brought about the war, so if it is allowed to eat into the fabrics of society, their future would be gloomy. He noted that it is therefore necessary to start fighting it at their early stage for them to have a brighter future.

Manager Sandi told the pupils that it is also their responsibility to combat corruption in Sierra Leone and should therefore be resolved to lay down their lives in the fight, just as their colleagues did in South Africa against the repressive Apartheid regime.  He urged the Integrity Club members to exhibit exemplary moral characters there by motivating their peers to resist, reject and report corruption.

The Regional Manager noted that the pupils should use the Day of the African Child to change all their corrupt attitudes and behaviors for the betterment of Sierra Leone. He lamented that corruption is as a result of bad attitude which has destroyed the nation. He stressed that teachers, parents and the society have a key role to play for the development of children.

Mr. Sandi urged the Teacher Coordinators to do a lot more in a bid to change the mind set of the pupils on corruption, as they may have been indoctrinated in a bad light.

The drama ended with a song calling on all sectors of society for change of negative attitude in order to wipe out corruption in Sierra Leone.
