Minister Assures Women of 30%
The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Madam Rosaline Oya Sankoh has intimated that the Ministry would do all it can to support legal and law abiding organizations engaged in child welfare as well as those advocating for the 30% quota for women in governance and the decision-making process.
She said it is the responsibility of the Ministry to promote social welfare and gender issues in Sierra Leone and cautioned those who are abusing the rights of children and in the process giving the Ministry a bad name to desist from the practice otherwise they would face justice.
Madam Sankoh further revealed that the Ministry denounces all forms of domestic violence and guaranteed, especially women in governance and those contesting the November polls, that they are safe and have nothing to fear.
According to the Deputy Minister, the crime rate in the country has decreased that has further enhanced the investment potentials of the country and assured all that nobody would be excluded from government’s Agenda for Change and the overall development of the country.
Rosaline Oya Sankoh also pointed out that President Ernest Bai Koroma is supporting all those prepared to change their attitude to prevent child trafficking, promote children’s rights and the 30% for women and 10% quota for youths respectively.
Other issues she said the Ministry frowns at include flogging of pupils in school to the point of sustaining injury, child labor and extra lessons and revealed that the Ministry would soon visit schools nationwide to get first hand information about the status of pupils.
Concluding, she advised all to abide by the Ministry’s rules and regulations governing their operations.
