Journalists prepare documentary on investment potentials
Freetown, 13 June (SLENA): A team of international journalists working for the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) Project of the World Trade Organization visited Sierra Leone to prepare a documentary on the investment potential and to identify areas of intervention on eco-tourism, manufacturing industries and accreditation on standards.
The leader of the team, Elena Immambocus, Trade and Communication Adviser, EIF Executive Secretariat, WTO, said the project aimed at rebranding the country’s investment opportunities by profiling its comparative advantages to compete fairly on the international market.
At the Sierra Leone Bureau, the Deputy Executive Director (SLSB), Amadu Jogor Bah, while leading the team on a conducted tour of the Bureau’s facilities, explained that the bureau had been testing and certifying food, beverage and drinking water for local manufacturing industries.
He said the bureau has established a new micro biology and chemistry laboratory and it is currently constructing a new building for metrology testing and calibrating labour laboratory.
Mr. Bah added that with the establishment of the two industries, the bureau will be in position to test imported foods entering the country and that they are working assiduously to attain international standard accreditation certification.
The community liaison officer at Tiwai Island in the Pujehun District, Ibrahim Luama, said the Island is an eco-tourism site with rare species such as the unique Olive Columbus monkey that attracts foreign visitors, including researchers.
He expressed the need for good road leading to the island, a reliable river transport system and VIP toilets for visitors and the island people.
Other places the team visited included the Bennimix Food Industry in Bo and the Africa Felix Juice Industry at Newton near Waterloo.
