Sierra Leone to Liberalize International Gateway operations

The Minister of Information and Communications, Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo has said at the close of a two day conference held in Freetown by the West African Telecommunication Regulatory Assembly (WATRA) that Sierra Leone is soon liberalizing her international gateway operations.

I B Kargbo said the African Coast to Europe Sub-Marine cable system (ACE) known as the fibre optic cables is a project designed to turn around the socio-economic condition the sub-Saharan countries. With the installation process reaching 95% according to the Minister the country’s plans to liberalize her gateway operations has attracted a faster pace to its actualization.

He said his government is upgrading plans to re-direct the purpose of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for which the Telecommunications Act of 2006 was endorsed to work in line with the ECOWAS 2009 Act as amended to harmonize such a policy.

He said as a government they are ready to partner hand in gloves with WATRA to achieve the purpose of decentralizing information and communication.

Meanwhile, NATCOM Chairman Alpha Timbo referenced praises to the Ministry of Information on behalf of the government for their efforts in bringing communication to the doorsteps of the masses.
