Acting Mayor suspends six
The Acting Mayor of the Freetown City Council (FCC), Alhaji Gibrilla Kanu on Monday May 7th suspended six workers of the FCC for disrespecting their superior. The Acting Mayor dismissed John Lasayon, Bio Kamara, John Conteh, Samuel Bidew, Abraham Samuel Koroma, and Garson Rose alias Timbo, whom he said are in the habit of instigating workers to show disrespect to some senior officials at the FCC.
He said FCC has a total of 315 employees working within the laws binding the Freetown City Council. Mayor Gibril Kanu said Garson Rosé insulted him and the current Chief Administrator, John Conteh.
He said past Friday he was addressing the university students of the Fourah Bay College when he got a distress call that the above named workers were misbehaving for their salaries and that he personally recommended their indefinite suspension.
According to the aggrieved workers the government has long ordered the Council to pay their five months backlog which is standing contrary to the agreement. They also pointed out that no specific time duration for the balance of two months.
They said the Acting Major has made life difficult for them as authority is no longer delegated to them and they need to be signing three times a day.
Garson Rose told this medium that he refused to accept the suspension letter because the said letter was never typed and as a result he was beaten by the Acting Mayor’s body guard called Tense Med and was handcuffed at the compound of the Council.
John Lasayoh Chief Superintendent of the metropolitan police said he was suspended because he frowned at the ill treatment melted on Garson Rose.
The matter was transferred to Central police Station with Garson Rose continuing to be in the police cells.
However the Acting Mayor has denied all the allegations adding that Garson Rose and others have destroyed council vehicles and that the vehicle he is using is owned by him and the driver has been his own personnel driver for a long time.
