Iranian deputy Governor visit FCC
On Monday 23rd April, Acting Mayor of Freetown Alhaji Gibril Kanu (in photo) received the Iranian Deputy Governor with his high power delegation from Iran paying a courtesy call at his Lightfoot Boston Street office in Freetown.
Welcoming the delegation the Acting Mayor Alhaji Gibril Kanu said that, he was very pleased to receive such a high power delegation from Iran. He explained that, the cities of Iran and Freetown would cooperate in various development projects.
He further told the delegation that sometime in 2010 when the former Mayor Herbert George Williams visited Iran, he returned home highlighting a number of projects like street lights which he has discuss with the Governor of Iran. The main project was the Animal Husbandry and asks the Deputy Governor of Iran to look for a site for the project, adding that, since then everything has come to a standstill.
In his response the head of the Iranian delegation thanked the Freetown City council for the good gesture, and assured them that everything that has been said by their boss is going to be taken into consideration, he also went on to say that they like the country (Sierra Leone) and like to partner with the Freetown City cCuncil. He further revealed that, his delegation want Council to issue them large acres of land as they want to implement projects, such as Technical Services, and Trade Centers so that, they (Iranians) will participate in the developmental aspects of this country.
He noted that ten thousand dollars ($ 10,000) has been set aside for these projects, if only the Freetown City Council is ready and willing to corporate. He further said that, he want to create a bi-lateral relation between the Iranian government and Sierra Leone government.
In his responses the Acting Mayor Alhaji Gibril Kanu asked the delegation to write a formal letter to the FCC Administrative office, adding that he would definitely be a strong backer of it. He appeal to the delegation to look at the Animal Husbandry project as he loves creatures so much and it will also help youths in terms of employment.
