Mr. President, watch your back!
The police under the leadership of Inspector General Francis Alieu Munu (in photo) are currently being accused of high-handedness and it seems he is losing control over his men who are now shooting and beating almost everybody without orders.
Some collections have been made in the catalogue where police’s high-handedness has made hallmarks. The Koidu Holdings shootout is one, the Musa Tarawally arms guard shootouts against armless civilians in Kono is another, the September 9 Maada Bio stone-bursting incident which left an Okada rider dead and many injured, is another, coupling with police brutality on harmless citizens.
We’ve seen police beating people needlessly on so many occasions, for example former presidential guard, Idrissa Kamara (Leather Boot) and Yete Yete beat up some BKPS workers in Kenema following a power cut during the event marking the inauguration of the Kenema/Pendebu road construction project.
Another incident occured at the National Stadium in Freetown wherein presidential guards beat up BBC’s Mohamed Fajah Barrie, Premier Tok radio’s Alhaji K. Tarawallie, Editor of the Exclusive Newspaper, David Jabbati, Maddie AAT Kabba and others.
Now the police are in a shoot and killing spree. Many including us at Sierra Express Media are wondering why the police have lost it all in a disrespectful manner. They left the armed robbers, 419ers, con men, cultists and other common criminals parading around as if they are the ones now policing the affairs of the state.
It is heart rendering, Mr. President to realize that the police are organizing themselves in unholy syndicates that are besetting the peace and tranquility the country has attained.
Having said that, we view the ugly development in Bumbuna recently where police are at it again shooting at armless citizens at will.
We demand that those officers involved be brought to book!
