Diaspora friends of Isata Kabia donate medications to Magbele Health Center
After several tours around Port Loko East Constituency where she is aspiring to contest in the coming Parliamentary elections in November this year, if she gets the APC party symbol, Ms Isata Kabia, an indigene of Marampa Masimera Chiefdom, born to the Kabia Ruling Clan in Lunsar town, now understands the problems of her people more than any other time. In response to the cries of her people for improved medical services in Magbele town; and in an attempt to complement President Ernest Koroma’s free healthcare for pregnant and lactating women, Ms Isata Kabia requested some “Over-the counter” medications from some of her friends in the United States only two weeks before their departure for Sierra Leone last month. The said request was honoured by friends who choose to be anonymous for now. These friends brought and donated half a suitcase of assorted medications to the Magbele Health Center. It is important to mention that this small Health Center serves over 5,000 people in and within this constituency; and with the government making every effort to maintain the president’s free Healthcare initiative, this gift to the ailing people of Magbele and its environs could not have come at a better time and at a more desirous moment.
The presentation took place at the Health Center grounds in the presence of the Magbele Chief, the ceremonial Chief; and a cross section of the local people within the vicinity of the Health Center. Ms Kabia was present as well. She thanked the people of Magbele town for helping her identify their medical needs and also thanked the representative from the United States who delivered the medications. The Magbele Chief and other town elders also expressed their thanks and appreciation for this act of goodwill; noting that this is the first time, in over fifty years, that an aspirant is extending a hand of assistance and generosity to his or her people well before the symbols were issued. This goes to explain that Ms. Isata Kabia places a higher premium on the welfare of her people in place of the mere acquisition of a party symbol. The fact that Ms. Kabia hailed from one of the Ruling Houses within the “Kabia Clan of rulers” in Marampa Masimera Chiefdom means that she believes in her moral and traditional responsibility to care for her people beyond party politics. This recent attempt to provide medications for the Magbele Health Center is a clear demonstration of that traditional obligation.
We strongly believe that Ms Isata Kabia is very much connected with her people of Port Loko East Constituency; and if President Koroma’s policy that the people should be given a free hand in selecting those who should represent them in the Sierra Leone Parliament is anything to go by, then we are very hopeful that Ms. Isata Kabia will secure the APC party symbol and will surely represent the people of Port Loko East Constituency after November 17 this year.
