Africell issues Le 10 Million prize for Inter-Secondary School quiz

Award wining network provider in Sierra Leone, Africell, on Tuesday April 3 issued a cheque for Ten Million Leones to the Nigerian Students’ Union who organized a one day Inter-Secondary School quiz competition for eight schools in the Western Area. Africell’s Corporate Affairs Officer, Joe Abass Bangura said the company believes that every nation’s face value is driven by the quality of its human resources. He said Africell also believes in enhancing the major tools which build the human resources with high quality spending.  

He said Africell was excited over their collaboration with the Nigerian Students’ Union through the Nigerian Embassy in Freetown (NSU-SL) in organizing a day long inter-secondary schools quiz competition and that the event is going to be adopted in their annual calendar of events.

Joe Abass Bangura disclosed that the competition will be held in a quarter phase to the finalist where the grand prizes are going to be won.

He said Africell has a package for education and have been dishing it out through their award of scholarships to various deserving students in the country. He said they have special facilities for close user group for students who are using their network.

He disclosed that Africell has awarded one year scholarships to sixty (60) pupils of the St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School, a life-time scholarship to Mohamed Kamara, a six-year old pupil of the Milton Margai School for the Blind from primary to tertiary, adding that they are currently dishing out scholarships to thirty pupils who lost their parents and guardians during the September 8, 2009 Shenge boat disaster which claimed the lives of 256 perople.

Minister Consular in the person of the Nigerian High Commission, Mrs. Elizabeth Imabibu expressed thanks and appreciation to Africell for providing funds for the quiz competition. She encouraged the company to continue their support to the Nigerian Students’ Union in Sierra Leone. She pledged her support to the competition and furthered that Africell should ensure that they hold such competitions annually so that they can be able to bring the different students in the sub-region into one fold. She paid glowing tribute to the organizers of the competition, NSU-SL; GT Bank; KPMG; SLRA; WAEC, and the National Youth Commission.

The ceremony was chaired by Africell’s Media Relations Supervisor, Tommy Terry Coker who lauded NSU-SL and the Nigerian Commission for their educative innovation. NSU-SL Secretary General, Omobowak Olopade gave the vote of thanks and applauded the company’s support to them.
