Manslaughter at Devil Hole

Mariatu Turay, mother of the late one year old Alusine Sesay, has told her relatives that her husband, Sorie Sesay, was responsible for their son’ s death.

She said her husband took their child under the tree in front of their house at Devil Hole in the night and mutilated him. She said Sorie visited in the night crying he was hungry. Mariatu said she went out to get a loaf of bread for him while she met Sorie standing underneath the tree in front of their house in the dark night.

“I questioned him why he was standing underneath the tree alone with the child but he failed to answer me appropriately”, she stated. “It was only when he came in that I noticed the child was in a pool of blood. I asked him where he did take my son but he couldn’t answer me. I scolded him and shouted till my neighbors intervened. We brought him (Sorie) as suspect to the Rokel Police Station where we were later transferred to the Kissy police Division for further investigation on the issue”, she explains.

Polices sources say Sorie Sesay and Mariatu were not husband and wife any more, but he kept visiting on intervals since they both had a child.

Family sources say the one year old Alusine Seasy fell suddenly ill and could not cope with the mutilation pain. He died later at the Connaught’s intensive care unit on March 23^rd. A cross section of views emanating from family members of Mariatu refused to believe that the one year old died a natural death.
