Man of God declares for City Mayor

In this interview Pastor Gibson (in photo) spoke to N’gardi Lahai of Sierra Express Media on his intentions to contest for the Freetown City Council’s hot seat job. Read through this revealing interview.

Pastor Gibson, you are disclosing plans to contest for the Mayor of Freetown position in the November polls, later this year. Tell our readers what inspired you to develop such a decision?

Result of the facts that I have seen what His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma is doing, I am convinced within myself that he needs more men on board. His Excellency is developmentally focused.

The race to the polls is in a tight contest and we’ve being seeing names emerging on such interest. What makes you think the baton will be yours for the hot seat?

The President has categorically told us that it is the people’s choice to elect whoever they want. I am the Chief Adviser of the market women and also a grass root politician.

The Freetown City Council Mayor’s seat is shrouded with controversies of late, seeing that the current holder of office, Herbert George Williams has excess baggage of financial improprieties, what direction or path of history do you want to take the city council in the near future?

I have a strong financial background. I am not only a pastor but a financial accountant that has the knowledge of managing public funds. I was the auditor for the Africa Development Bank in which I proved well. This time Sierra Leoneans will be having an accountant to manage the City Council’s funds. I will also ensure a proper financial management system. With these experiences, I think I have edge over others.

Lots needs to be done in the area of giving the city a facelift. Looking at the current situation of filth in the city, what plans do you have in place if you emerge as Mayor of Freetown?

I have a strong conviction that health is wealth. I have a decision to divide the city into zones whereby the best locality will have a price due to the cleanliness of their zone. I will be prepared to work with a company from Canada who is dealing with waste and producing energy through it. Meaning, I will be selling the dirt to them thereby ensuring cleanliness in the city.

What message do you have for Sierra Leoneans?

Sierra Leoneans need to come on board and support me for a better city. I want us to work together for a better country because I cannot do it alone.

Thanks, it’s been good talking to you

You are welcome.
