SLPP’s Robin Fallay to clear forgery charges
Awareness Times reported on Tuesday that Hon. Robin Fallay, Member of Parliament, representing Constituency 07, Kailahun District, spent a night in police custody, following a police probe on the falsification of birth certificates to enhance voter registration of under-age persons in his constituency.
The MP is reported to have been arrested alongside a teacher who reports claimed, enhanced the illegal process. The underage school going children were detected by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Registrars in the community.
OSD Boss assures peaceful polls
OSD Boss, Tomas Tamba Kamara, the officer in charge of the Advance Public Order Training School for the OSD in Samu Chiefdom, Northern Sierra Leone has assures Sierra Leoneans that his men will police the November polls efficiently without any lapses.
He said they are embarking on human right border patrol, community relation weapon handing, tactics, first aid, MRU, public order and map reading which among others would enable them carry out the work professionally.
Fire inferno at Moa Wharf
As the Global Times Newspaper reports, ranging fire consumed fifteen houses last Friday at the coastal settlement of Moa Wharf which left hundreds of residents in that community homeless, following the inferno which consumed properties worth millions of Leones.
The opposition Sierra Leone people’s Party’s Brima Keita sympathized with the victims, according to the Global Times.
Whistle Blowing on IG
Reports relayed in the local tabloids in Freetown claim that Inspector General of Police Francis Alieu Munu is not maintaining a neutral position in terms of the political situation in the country.
The cable news is quoted to have stated; “IG Munu is an APC supporter” and observed; “Munu is intelligent, but does not have a strong group of strategic issues.”
APC Assures to Leave Power
Scribe of the of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) Victor Bockarie Foh has told a cross-section of the local media in Freetown on Tuesday that his party will relinquish power if they are voted out in the November polls. Mr. Foh was speaking during the district monitoring code committee’s inauguration of the Western Area Rural district by the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) in the Atlantic Hall of the National Stadium in Freetown.
Ports in 28 Billion Leones Debt
The New Vision of Freetown, Wednesday reports that the Sierra Leone’s Ports Authority is engrossed in a wholesome debt of Le 28.4 billion Leones. The newspaper cited a 2010 audit report and reveals a refusal by the International Development Association (IDA) to loan Sierra Leone a credit of 2895 SL for the purpose of replacing the shipway cradles and ports rehabilitation caused an inaccuracy to ascertain the loan of Le 28.4 billion in question.
Moala Ferry is death trap
Awoko of Wednesday March 7 reports that a decrepit ferry in the name of Moala is not seaworthy any more for travelers of the Moa River, South of Sierra Leone who cross with the landing craft with apprehension. The craft lacks life Jackets and is also usually overloaded even though it is only supposed to accommodate few passengers. The importance of the Ferry to residents of Zimi Mepkete Potoru and environs is not to be overemphasized, a resident says.
The 60 year old ferry is remnant of the country’s former colonial masters, the British. Since they left, no other ferry has replaced it as the riverine community now cries for its services.
