Sierra Leone joins Grenada in moment of grief

As citizens of Grenada mourn the death of their former Prime Minister George Brizan, Head of Chancery, who also doubled as Acting Head of Mission, Sierra Leone Embassy in the People’s Republic of China, the death of the late man is a moment of grief not only for his country, but for member states of the Commonwealth of Nations, since Grenada is part of the Commonwealth of Nations, to which Sierra Leone also belongs.  (Photo: The late George Brizan.  Photo credit  http://www.gov.gd/index.html)

He died last Saturday, February 18th “following a prolonged illness”, reports state. The late man, who died at the age of 69, reportedly became prime minister of his Caribbean homeland in February of 1995 after the resignation of Prime Minister Nicholas Braithwaite.

Grenada is an island country and Commonwealth Realm consisting of the island of Grenada and six smaller islands at the southern end of the Grenadines in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. It is located northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, northeast of Venezuela, and southwest of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, according to online findings.

Signing a Book of Condolence, Thursday, February 24th at the Grenada Embassy in Beijing, People’s Republic of China on behalf of the people and government of Sierra Leone, Paul A S. Minah stated, that from the bilateral front, Sierra Leone and Grenada have been having common standing on international matters, coupled with both countries’ relation from the perspective of the Commonwealth of Nations. He conveyed the Government of Sierra Leone’s deep sorrow at the death of the Former Prime Minister.

The current Prime Minister  of Grenada, Hon. Tillman Thomas, according to the official government website of the Grenada government expressed “deep sadness” at the passing of former Prime Minister …” saying, the country has “lost a great stalwart, who gave selflessly as a teacher, author, politician, historian, minister of government and Prime Minister…”
