Man arrested with 1,000 rounds of ammunition at Masiaka

Twenty-eight year old Amadu Junior Kanu, a final year student at the Fatima College, Makeni, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Steven Conteh of Court No.1 to answer to a count of possessing unlawful ammunition.

Testifying in his own defense, the twenty-eight year old said his friend Sulaiman Suba Kanu entrusted the said luggage to him on his way to Freetown.  He said Sulaiman Suba Kanu informed him that he had something in a small box he wanted to show him.  He said he could not understand that which was contained in the said box but opted to travel with the box to Freetown in the hope that his elder brother would help him understand the contents of the box. He said he boarded a Poda Poda van with registration AGB, 064 and on their way to Freetown the police stopped the van at the Masiaka checkpoint where the box was discovered to have contained a thousand rounds of ammunition.

The bearer was arrested alongside the driver, Mr. Teddy on Sunday January 1, 2012.

The matter was adjourned to February 8, this year.
