Rapture Kids declare 2012 as the Year of Peace
Rapture Kids musical group has declared 2012 as the Year of Peace in a campaign which is titled: ‘Post-Jubilee Peaceful Election Appeal’.
The Post-Jubilee Peaceful Election Appeal follows their immense contribution to the successful celebration of Sierra Leone’s Golden Jubilee through their hit song Happy Birthday Mama Salone and series of performances.
Pastor Emanuel Gibson, who is the leader of the group, noted the potential for violence in Sierra Leone forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections later this year.
“It is clear that children are the most vulnerable group during any chaotic period. All the children in Rapture Kids were born after the war. They were told the story of the war and their response is “we don’t want this to happen again,” he said.
Pastor Gibson added: “In light of this, the kids themselves will be making the appeal to the incumbent government, all opposition party leaders, the forces, the National Electoral Commission, media practitioners, youths and the general populace of Sierra Leone for peaceful elections. He said the aim is to advocate for a peaceful electioneering process before, during and after the November 2012 polls.
This kids` campaign will be marked by series of activities including arts, drama, poetry on peace, which will be organized among primary and secondary schools. Winners of all categories will be showcased and they will perform on the day of the proposed peace concert at the National Stadium.
Pastor Gibson is appealing to individuals and institutions to support this initiative.
