ADBP completes supervision of Sierra Leone dredging

Jan de Nul was contracted by AML to re-establish a navigational channel by dredging from Pepel out along the Sierra Leone River to Freetown

The channel being required to allow safe passage of Handymax Bulk carriers from the Pepel loading jetty to the offshore transhipment area, as part of AML’s Tonkolili Iron Ore Project. As part of their contract, JdN was required to provide survey operations for the production of Pre & Post Dredge Bathymetric Surveys, as well as give support to their dredger during the campaign. Anthony D Bates Partnership (ADBP) was employed by African Minerals Limited to supervise the surveying aspects of the dredging campaign, including both the pre and post dredge surveys and all interim surveys performed by Jan de Nul.

Survey operations were commenced in early February 2011, prior to the TSHD dredger James Cook starting work. Dredging was completed approximately 4 weeks later well ahead of schedule. ADBP were onsite for a total of 35 days supervising the surveying aspects and also undertook a review of the technical specification for the on-going surveying requirements following completion for the dredging works.
