Paddle mask devil goes red!
Eastern Paddle Hunting Society also known as ‘Paddle,’ a masquerade devil which, in the past, was identified as belonging to the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), is now toeing the line of the governing All People Congress (APC) party.
The membership of ‘Paddle’ masked devil is known to be SLPP owing to the fact that it originated from the dominated stronghold of opposition SLPP at Magazine Cut in the east part of Freetown.
Monday’s ‘Paddle’ procession was seen a complete reverse. This year’s procession was described seemingly the best.
The ‘ashobi’ costume was all red. A baseball cap which formed part of the dress code has the inscription ‘OR PA OR PON,’ meaning that the case is finished.
Red, in political arena in Sierra Leone is owned by the ruling APC. The tribe Temne, from words inscribed is the tribe of President Koroma.
Persons that spoke to this press described Paddle Hunting Society as playing the in and out of the pond game.
“To I,” a dancer who refused to give his name said, “it is unfortunate that mask hunting societies have dragged themselves into politics thus dancing to the dictates of politicians of the APC and SLPP.”
The procession witnessed the presence of sizeable number of government Ministers.
“Green Paddle goes Red,” another dancer said.
