Murder… police kills traffic police
Police Constable 13042 Prince Peteqel attached to Operational Security Division branch (OSD), and on deployment at the Ross Road Police Station Saturday 29th at Low-Cost Housing, Kissy, Freetown, at approximately 1:30, murdered in cold blood Traffic Police Officer John Mansaray.
Reports from investigators at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are that John Mansaray (deceased) while returning home after work came across OSD Prince Peteqel, who then was on guard duties at one of the houses at Low Cost Housing in Kissy.
He (the deceased) was halted three times for interrogation by OSD Prince Petequel. That the deceased John Mansaray took to orders given him by his colleague, and identified himself as a Traffic Police officer; thus removing a police handset and handcuffs he had in his possession as proof of fact.
It was revealed however that during questioning, the deceased got a call from his mobile phone and as a result turned his back against OSD Prince Peteqel, and moved a few yards to answer the call.
He was later halted by OSD Prince Peteqel, told not to take any further steps or will be shot at. Just when the deceased was pleading with his colleague not to shoot him – emphasizing he is a police officer- he was suddenly shot in the right leg.
According to eyewitnesses’ account, the deceased shouted the name of his wife, but nobody dared come outside as they put it “we overheard the OSD officer threatening to shoot anyone attempting to come to the aid of the deceased.”
That the deceased was shot four times thus the removal of his lever.
Answering to questions from a senior police officer, the police killer man admits knowing the deceased, but said however that at the time he approached the deceased, he thought he was a thief.
The matter is currently under investigation at the CID headquarters.
