PC Kasangha II crowned
MAKENI, SIERRA LEONE – The Ministry of Local Government and has last (Friday) 21st October 2011, administered a coronation rites on Paramount Chief Bai Shebora Kansangha II at Pate Bana Marank Village in the Bobbali Shebora Chiefdom, Bombali district.
He was elected Paramount Chief eighteen years ago without going through the required traditional coronation rites, until last Friday’s occasion which finally certified PC Kasangha II to take full control of traditional and cultural authorities in Bobbali Shebora.
The coronation of PC Kansangha II which has been a long outstanding chieftaincy issue in Bombali district, for well over a decade and half, brought together Paramount Chiefs from across the country, Members of Parliament from the district and beyond, traditional and religious leader from within and outside the community, cabinet ministers and representatives from the nineteen local councils to grace the all important occasion traditional event.
At the occasion President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma described the chance as a great moment for the people of Bombali Shebora, the culture and tradition values of the chiefdom that will be always remembered by the community. He said P.C. Kansangha II has waited for eighteen years of hope, expectations and of uneasy moments.
President Koroma congratulated PC Kansangha II on his coronation, having waited for well over a decade and half. He encouraged the newly crowned Bombali Shebora traditional king to maintain the socio-economic, political, cultural and traditional values, as Sierra Leone traditions are anchor around chieftaincy and vary from chiefdom to another. “We should all hold fast to our culture and traditions that make us Sierra Leoneans”, said President Koroma.
He recalled when he took up office barely less than four years back, as a government there were so many speculations and allegations that were rumours that the All Peoples Congress (APC) does not have a healthy relationship with the chiefs, which has been proved wrong.
“We went straight into action and gave life to the institution of chieftaincy to the extent that even the transformation programme also involved the chiefs. I have no problem with any chief”, he said, and declared the immediate resolution of all outstanding chieftaincy matters before December this year.
Chiefs, in his believes, have critical roles to play in the preparation of government policy directions and oversight functions in the monitoring of development projects in their various chiefdoms.
He thus encouraged all Paramount Chiefs to work as a team for the good of their communities, and that chiefs should be respected so that there would be successes in their various chiefdoms.
The Minister of Local Government, Dauda Sulaiman Kamara who chaired the event, said it took PC Kansangha II eighteen years to reach his final coronation. Ambassador Dauda said government is trying to redefine the institution of chieftaincy so that it will take its rightful position in governance.
He recollected that on the eve of the departure of colonial administrators; “we were told to up keep the institution of chieftaincy”. He called for sound and mutual harmonization of collaboration between Mayor Sesay and PC Kansangha II.
Earlier welcoming all at the historic affair Mayor Sesay of Makeni accepted the presence of chiefs from across the board at the coronation, a clear indication that President Koroma is indeed moving Sierra Leone from all directions.
On behalf of P.Cs, PC Charles Coker from Moyamba district described the coronation of PC Kansangha II as a great relief to the people Bombali Shebora. He said the institution of chieftaincy is going through transformation under the leadership of President Kkroma.
“I see reasons to appreciate the efforts of the President for the love he has shown and demonstrated for chieftaincy and for the people of Sierra Leone”, said PC Coker. He observed that President Koroma can be very good repeater, and called on all to all and sundry to give him the mandate to serve the people.
