Murder…Bo report indicts four police

Content of the Bo September 9 political rally chaos report indicts four police officers over crimes of murder and inflicting gunshot wounds on number of unarmed civilians.

Barely after the September 9th Bo commotion, individuals from respective civil society organizations including the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), the Political Party Registration Commission (PPRC), the Police and others were appointed by the office of the President to investigate the cause of the unrest.

Just recently, the investigation committee which was lead by Kelvin Lewis (proprietor of the Awoko newspaper) submitted findings to President Koroma thus indicting number of APC and SLPP party supporters including 4 police officers as suspects to respective crimes committed during the Bo unrest.

Police Constable 12381 B. S Mansaray according to the report is held responsible for willfully murdering in cold blood a bike rider, Abdulai Sesay. At the same time Police Constables 12558 Alhansan Khandi Conteh, 12562 Augustine Sanu and Sergeant 6220 Conteh Kekuda stand accused of shooting and wounding harmless civilians.

The committee stated that the President must unfailingly act upon recommendations in the report and ensure that persons found culpable are dealt with by law.

That amongst the names submitted as suspects for offences committed during the commotion, only few APC and SLPP supporters have been charged.

All 4 police officers held responsible for the killing of 1 and wounding of about 23 persons, are yet to face court charge.

Public opinion questioned the Attorney General and Minister of Justice’s refusal to prosecute the officers accused of killing, shooting and wounding of harmless Bo residents.

It was reported that the diseased bike rider ceaselessly pleaded with the police not to shoot him, but was needlessly gunned down.

Opinion pool have it that should the  police officers accused of murdering and wounding of about 23 harmless people not brought to justice, family members of the victims would avenge their deaths in public protests.
