As Betts and Berewa Law Firm warns – fake WAEC results hunt colleges
Constituent colleges of the University of Sierra Leone (USL), we are told, are at present putting a fight against the exploit of fraudulent results of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Consequent to recent investigations, which reports are presently examined by the University Court, and to be released as a ‘White Paper’ for public consumption very soon, respective colleges are reportedly introducing measures that prevent students seeking for admission into the University or tertiary institutions or would be grandaunts doctored or using fake WAEC results to gain entrance.
Whereas colleges are littered with WAEC results cheat, advocates of excellence education have confided in Sierra Express Media that, on a number of occasions, WAEC’s letterhead, seal, and official stamp found its way in the hands of deceitful individuals aiming to nose-dive this country’s standard of education, which for long has been prided as the ‘best’ in the sub region.
Tthe use of fake results to gain entrance to colleges, has not only demeaned the enviable reputation of the University of Sierra Leone internationally, but has rather injected laziness in students seeking higher education.
This, according to findings of the ‘Professor Gbamanja’ Commission, is what has lead to an unending decline in the standards of education and corruption from within circuits of education practitioners generally.
Even though academicians questioned reasons most important to the falling standards of education at University levels, allegation is that the commitments of lecturers and the deplorable status of college infrastructures as compared to contemporary standards are causative factors leading to the nonstop decline of Sierra Leone’s educational norms.
Investigations have it clear that with the emergence in the growth of information technology, WAEC results are prone to illegal downloading nay the endless resultant alterations of figures to suit the students’ unlawful purposes.
The rife and uncalled for falsification of results by apparently officials of WAEC or unknown unscrupulous outsiders has in the recent past, provoked worried college institutions to force WAEC give them access to their database to enable them to verify results submitted them by the applicants.
Consequently, applicants using the WAEC vanguards are under pressure buying scratch cards so that suspecting colleges can verify the authenticity of their results.
This has however put serious financial constraints on a number of University applicants and has posed embarrassment to genuine certified WAEC candidates.
An information communication expert that spoke with Sierra Express Media advanced reasons that until WAEC debars the possibilities of illegal downloading of essential features, irregularities of fake results will virtually not end at all.
