ABC Secretariat admonishes FSSG pupils to emulate positive attitude

The Attitudinal and Behavioral Change (ABC) Secretariat has admonished pupils of the Freetown Secondary School for girls (FSSG) to emulate the positive behavior of persons who have stood out to be role models in society. The Executive Director of ABC Dr. Ivan Agibola Thomas pointed out that the role of the Secretariat is to help modify the attitude and behavior of Sierra Leoneans, saying that “your attitude and behavior affects your lives and those around you.”

Dr. Thomas admonished the girls to comply with the rules and regulations of their school, noting that by compliance they will eventually portray positive attitude. He also warned them against negative attitudes like prostitution, negative dress codes and other things that will sway them from their educational pursuit.

He said they should not befriend those who do not have respect for their teachers and the school authorities. “Emulate people with good attitude as role models” he maintained.

He cautioned the teachers to refrain from the attitude of flattering around with their pupils. “Don’t fool the pupils by giving them money, examination questions or grades” he warned.

He informed them about the Secretariat’s intention to establish ABC clubs in secondary schools that will be working directly with the Secretariat in organizing activities like drama and quiz competitions.

In her presentation, the National Coordinator and Deputy Executive Secretary of ABC Secretariat Nanette Thomas noted that education is the only instrument that will make them attain higher positions in the future.  She encouraged the pupils to imbibe positive attitude and work hard to become role models among their friends

Madam Thomas called on the pupils of her Alma Meta to put up best practice in order to portray the good image of their school.   “Change your attitude and  your life would change” she assured.

The National Coordinator strongly warned the girls against the use of cell phones while in class, arguing that the use of cell phones in class will distract their attention from understanding what the teacher teaches.

Madam Thomas urged the teachers to keep a wary eye on their pupils and to ensure that they are encouraged and accommodated.  She said “be the pupil’s friend, and don’t complain about their number.”

She encouraged the teachers to be role models so that their pupils could copy their styles and become good citizens in the future.

Madam Thomas reiterated that the role of the Secretariat is to help modify the attitude of Sierra Leoneans in order to enhance the president’s vision in the Agenda for Change.

The Acting Junior Secondary School Principal Miss Florence I. Davis welcomed the Secretariat’s decision to set up an ABC club in her school and promised to fully collaborate with the Secretariat in its activities.

She advised her pupils to be good at all times and in all places. The vote of thanks was delivered by one of the students Aminata B. Kamara of JSS III.
