Police Officer named in Bo violence
Police Sergeant 8470 Bangura S. Sunday 18th fell in the hands of his colleagues on an allegation linking him to the recent Bo turbulence which left 1 dead and 19 injured.
Sergeant Bangura was reportedly arrested alongside members of his family in Jendema, a few miles to the Liberian border.
He was nabbed by a combined team of uniformed, plain clothes, and armed police personnel.
It could be recalled that scarcely after the Bo unrest, which practically brought about the wounding of Maada Bio (Presidential Flag bearer of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party); President Koroma promptly selected persons from respective civil society organizations to act as members in the committee tasked to investigate reasons surrounding the unrest.
Debates from within the membership of both the opposition SLPP and ruling APC seemed rife, with either side accusing the other of igniting the unrest.
At a particular point, it was alleged that the SLPP Presidential candidate, Julius Maada Bio, lied about being wounded, knowing same to be false.
And on the other side, particularly from within ranks of the SLPP, it was attributed that the attack on their leader Maada, was all, but an attempted assassination by the ruling APC party.
The arrest of Sergeant Bangura has however raised concern in minds of considerable number of Sierra Leoneans that the naming of a police officer as suspect in the on going investigation queries national security.
It is a fact that Honourable Tamba Sam of the opposition SLPP once urged Sierra Leoneans to ask the police explain how the APC Bo regional office was burnt down.
He insisted on getting the police to answer to queries regarding the burning of structures during Bo unrest because he was of the opinion that the police are in the better position to explain how it all happened.
It could be recalled that, on number of times, the police have been observed joining hands with politicians to manufacture political unrest.
Facts have it that police officers attached to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Musa Tarawallie, two weeks ago, opened fire at youths in Kono on the orders of the Minister.
Just as government conduct investigation on the Kono shooting; the police have again been accused of using live bullets against unarmed civilians in Bo consequently killing 1 and injuring 19.
However, the head of police media, Assistant Superintendent Ibrahim Samura, in a surprised mood had revealed to Sierra Express Media that the arrest of Sergeant Bangura is unconnected to the Bo investigation as alleged.
“Samura,” ASP Samura said, “I am in a meeting, but will explain about the arrest of Sergeant Bangura soon after the meeting ends.” [The police ASP never got back to this press as earlier promised at all.]
