APC, SLPP may ignite civil unrest

We said it, and we still say it, the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) and the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) appear to seemingly promote civil unrest ahead of 2012.  (Photo: recent fire damage to APC office, Bo)

Barely after the announcement of Julius Maada Bio as SLPP Presidential flag bearer, the political scenery of Sierra Leone changes its form altogether.

To the APC, Bio’s appointment was all the more a reflection of Sierra Leone’s bad old past in relation to killings and coups in the early and late 1990s.

Conversely, a good number of opposition SLPP supporters see Bio as President Koroma’s head on challenger for the race for Presidency in 2012.

To this, came the unregulated ‘war of words’ from among stalwarts and supporters of both political parties, thus the dawn of provocative and uncalled for debate in studios of radio and television stations to shamelessly, ignorantly, and unwittingly, offload their selfish objectives.

As we go down memory lane, it is apparent that Sierra Leoneans of age 24+ and who may have witnessed at first hand, shiver when memories of such a senseless rebel war plays in their minds.

A war that came because of the APC and SLPP, which has left the country to reverse in accelerated gear.

Hundreds of thousands killed, hundreds of thousands maimed and disfigured, thousands raped, and hundreds of thousands made homeless.

The war, according to late Foday Sabana Sankoh, was meant to unseat the corrupt APC administration of  the late President Momoh.

But even when APC was later overthrown in 1992 by group of military officers calling themselves the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC), the war still continued.

Of course, it continued onto the days of SLPP governance from 1996 to 2000 respectively.

The war brought hell, agony, torture and torment in to the minds of Sierra Leoneans anyway.

It is without excuse, nonetheless, that the war was meant to have the APC and SLPP, who for number of reasons are the negotiators of total destruction and underdevelopment of Sierra Leone, removed from the political panorama of society.

And now, even as we get ready ahead of the 2012 elections, the same APC and SLPP have woefully engaged the innocent youths into thoughtless and reckless bloodshed.

Some two weeks past, an APC Minister in the person of Musa Tarawallie was in the Kono District, eastern Sierra Leone, on a visit, but unwittingly ordered some 20 police officers to open fire at defenseless youths on the grounds of an alleged attack against his person.

The entire township was left in panic due to the random release of gunshots by police officers attached to the Minister.

Just about a week after the Kono unrest, a new incident of bloodshed allegedly by youths of the SLPP and APC was again reported in the southern Bo District.

Be it known also the Bo unrest was allegedly triggered barely after the SLPP flag bearer marched passed Mahei Boima Road in Bo Town to say thank you to all that voted him in office.

It is but reckless, however, that these two political parties have had restless moments supplying youths with drugs and alcohol to enable them to behave just as the rebels of late Corporal Foday Sabana Sankoh.

Even as religious men spend their precious time praying for peace in Sierra Leone, politicians of the APC and SLPP are reportedly busy schooling the youths with things that are unfavorable to state existence.

Citations must be drawn to serialized public debates once organized for politicians of the APC and the SLPP.

All but what are discussed encircles hatred, lies, incitements and statements that alight civil unrest.

No disrespect for the forenamed political parties at all, but disrespect to the bad, selfish and greedy politicians.

  • IGNORING THE INDIVIDUAL FEELINGS OF PEOPLE EVEN THEY ARE THE MINORITY ALWAYS BRINGS RESTLESSNESS IN ANY SOCIETY, AND SIERRA LEONE WILL BE NO EXCEPTION. REMEMBER THE WORDS OF TONY BLAIR ‘Where there is ignorance there is fear and where there is fear there is often conflict.’
THE LEADERS OF S.L.P.P. IGNORING THE FEELINGS OF THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE KILLED BY THE N.P.R.C. IN WHICH BIO WAS ONE OF THE HEADS (TODAY THE SAME BIO HAS BECOME THE FLAG BEARER OF THE S.L.P.P),IS TOTALLY EXASPERATING.
TRULY AND SINCERELY SPEAKING, NO FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND OR FAMILY FRIEND OR FRIEND’S FRIEND OF THOSE SENSELESSLY BRUTALLY MURDERED SOULS WILL BE HAPPY TO SEE BIO CAMPAIGNING IN HIS OR HER TERRITORIES.
IT IS TRUE, WE HAVE FORGIVEN. BUT IT IS A FACT THAT THE NAME ‘BIO’ EXHUMES OUR BURIED MEMORIES OF OUR LOST BELOVED ONES WHICH BIO HAD THEM KILLED WHEN HE WAS THE SECOND MAN IN THE COUNTRY.
S.L.P.P, LET ME ASK YOU. DO YOU WANT TO KILL A NUMBER OF SIERRA LEONEANS BY INSTALLMENT BY MAKING BIO PRESIDENT?
IF YES, WHY? IF NO, CALL UPON BIO TO QUIT BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. THE PEOPLE OF SIERRA LEONE WANT TO FORGET THE PAST SO PLEASE, LET THEM BE.

  • The President made a wise decision to have appointed a Konoman as his running mate. This intuitive foresight has increased APC number. This is what SLPP should do to consider other tribal groups as people too. They should know they cannot win by themselves. You are not more than 50% of the population so you need others to see you through and not look down on them.
