Actor Jeffrey Wright shares his passion for Sierra Leone on CNN’s Connect the World
New York, New York (Javelin – August 5, 2011) – Award-winning American actor and philanthropist Jeffrey Wright was interviewed about his development interests in Sierra Leone for the CNN series Connect the World. Wright was featured as the “Connector of the Day” in relation to his work as founder and Vice Chairman of Taia Lion Resources and its philanthropic arm Taia Peace Foundation, which he co-founded and chairs. Wright has been passionate about the economic and social development of Sierra Leone since his first visit 10 years ago, just as the country was coming out of its decade long civil war. Wright fell in love with the country and saw its potential for growth.
In 2007, he established the Taia Peace Foundation which is dedicated to stimulating economic development in Sierra Leone by initiating projects that employ local residents and stimulate rural development. Most recently, the foundation celebrated the completion of a 29 kilometre road built in the Kailahun district. The US $1 million project was made possible through the financial support of TPF in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Roads Authority.
Jeffrey Wright is an American actor best known for his Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning performance in the critically acclaimed HBO mini-series Angels in America.” A native Washingtonian, he has also been lauded for his work on stage and in films including Syriana, Basquiat, and the two most recent instalments of the James Bond series. However, Wright’s most rewarding work been in helping the people of Sierra Leone to rebuild their lives.
